Guilt-free Chivda

Five in the evening is that time of the day when one needs a little "something" with tea/ coffee. A “something” which takes care of the need to munch on something without spoiling one’s dinner. This version of chivda( also called mixture down south) is crunchy, satisfies my quest for low calorie and healthy and is a hit with us.

Ingredients:
4 glasses puffed rice (kurmura)
2 ½ glasses Kellogg’s cornflakes
½ glass gram (daria/ pottukadalai)
½ glass roasted peanuts
½ glass raisins
2 tsp sugar
2 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
¼ tsp asafetida
2-3 sprigs curry leaves
Salt and chilli powder to taste

Method:
Lightly roast the cornflakes. Roast the gram separately till golden, do not brown. Keep aside. Heat oil in a deep pan and brown raisins and remove. Allow mustard seeds to splutter, then add peanuts and lightly roast. Add the asafoetida, curry leaves, chilli powder and sugar. Mix once and switch off the heat. Now add the puffed rice, cornflakes, roasted gram, raisins and salt. Remember that cornflakes and puffed rice contain salt. Store in an airtight container.
P.S. I have used a "glass" as a measure here. This is the standard steel glass we use to drink out of in South Indian homes and takes approx. 180ml fluid when full.
