  • 10 dried red chillies
  • tsp Small marble sized ball of tamarind or 1 tsp tamarind paste
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida powder
  • 1 tsp powdered jaggery
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 gram tbsp toasted split blacklentils
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/3 cup sesame oil

Instructions

  • Grind all the ingredients, except the turmeric powder and oil, together with a couple of tablespoons of water in a blender to a smooth paste.
  • Heat the oil in wok and add the paste to it. Be careful as the oil will spit. On medium heat, mix in the turmeric powder and cook the mixture down until the oil starts floating up at the sides of the wok. The mixture will change colour from a bright green to a dark olive green.
  • Let it cool completely. Then transfer to a sterile glass jar and refrigerate till use.
